LIVING GARDENS – The Heritage Specialist for School Gardens in Galway
Kay has been involved in school gardens since 2004. Her hands-on gardening programme aims to involve pupils in designing and implementing their own school garden, or improve and enhance an existing garden.
School Garden Workshops
Vegetable, herb and fruit growing, composting, living willow structures, tree and hedge planting and more.
Environmental Education Workshops
Native trees and shrubs, mini beast, wild flowers, bird feeding.
Green Flag Workshops
Litter & waste (composting, recycling and re-using)
Biodiversity (habitat mapping & creation, bug ‘hotels’, species counts)
All workshops can be booked through the ‘Heritage in Schools Scheme’ and include hands-on outdoor activities and investigation, worksheets and interactive games. They can be tailored to suit the pupils’ needs and the schools’ facilities.
About the Heritage in Schools Scheme: The scheme offers a panel of Heritage specialists who will, at the request of a teacher, visit a primary school to work directly with the children. The Scheme is funded by the Heritage Council and school visits are subsidised.
